One of the north-west’s largest residential development sites is being brought to market by Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), on behalf of Wirral Council.

The 19-acre site on Old Hall Road in Bromborough benefits from outline planning permission for 249 new homes.

The sale is of part of a wider disposal programme being undertaken by Wirral Council as it seeks to release new land for employment and residential uses.

Despite being allocated within the adopted unitary development plan (UDP) as an employment site, no subsequent employment development has been forthcoming and conversion to residential use has been reflected within the emerging Wirral Local Plan.

The site, which is situated on the southern edge of the Wirral – some 5 miles south of Birkenhead, 6 miles south of Liverpool and 11 miles north of Chester – has been vacant for 20 years, having previously by used as a fuel storage facility by the Ministry of Defence (MoD). It also sits on the edge of the Wirral International Business Park, which is home to a range of international, local and national operators and logistics providers.

Wirral Council – supported by funding from Homes England – has partially remediated the site following the demolition of the MoD storage facility in 2010/11.
