The Call for Sites 2024/25 remains open, providing an important opportunity to shape the future of Stockport’s Local Plan. Following the Call for Sites exercise the Council have indicated that the consultation version of the Local Plan is set to be published later in 2025.
The housing need in Stockport has grown substantially, increasing from 1,097 to 1,815 dwellings per annum following revisions to the standard methodology. This highlights an urgent need for the identification of sustainable residential development sites across the borough.
A recent appeal decision underscored the critical housing shortage faced by the borough, revealing Stockport’s five-year housing land supply currently stands at just 1.56–1.77 years. The Inspector concluded this demonstrates “the acute and serious level of housing need across the borough.”
In light of these challenges, the Call for Sites exercise and the development of the Local Plan present significant opportunities for landowners, developers, site promoters, and other stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to shaping Stockport’s future.
