Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) has secured the property management mandate for the Northern Trains (Northern) property portfolio for a further five years, following a competitive tender process.

Having first been awarded the contract in 2017, LSH will oversee the management of property at Northern’s stations and in addition LSH has been retained to provide leasing and letting advice across the network with approximately 50 current opportunities from high footfall retail locations to spaces ideal for community uses.

Paul Barnett, Director at Lambert Smith Hampton, said: “It is always gratifying as the incumbent to re-secure a long-term mandate. This is a diverse portfolio with enormous potential, and we are excited to explore new opportunities to bring new uses to underutilised assets and to deliver new placemaking initiatives across some of the region’s busiest stations”.

Paul Milnes, Northern’s Senior Station Development Manager added: “We are acutely aware of the positive impact stations can have on commuters, communities and visitors, and remain committed to enhancing the experience for all our customers and to delivering an estate that works well for the communities we serve and that we can be proud of. We are delighted to continue our long-term relationship with LSH who are a professional, informed and proactive property adviser, focused on our shared vision to enhance our customer’s travel experience.”

Northern is the UK’s second-largest train operator, which carries approximately 100 million passengers a year across a network spanning both sides of the Pennines, down to the Midlands and up to the Scottish borders. With responsibility for 479 stations, Northern is on the look-out to bring new opportunities and enhance the customer experience for all passengers and other station visitors.

Current occupiers across the portfolio include Starbucks, Costa, WH Smith, Greggs and Amazon in addition to a number of high quality independent operators, ranging from coffee shops and micro pubs to barber shops and florists.
