North Tyneside Council are currently consulting on a ‘Call for Sites’ as part of their evidence gathering process to prepare a new Local Plan. The Call for Sites consultation will inform preparation of a ‘Vision, Issues and Options’ consultation document planned for summer 2025.
North Tyneside Council has recently commenced work on preparation of a new Local Plan for the Borough. The Council’s anticipated timetable for their Local Plan preparation is set out below:
- Vision, Issues and Options Consultation – Summer 2025
- Draft North Tyneside Local Plan (Regulation 18) Consultation – Autumn/ Winter 2025
- Publication Draft North Tyneside Local Plan (Regulation 19) Consultation – Summer 2026
- Submission of the publication draft North Tyneside Local Plan to the Planning Inspectorate for Examination in Public – Winter 2026
- Anticipated adoption of the Local Plan by North Tyneside Council – 2027/2028
Each site submitted to the Call for Sites will be individually assessed for housing, employment, leisure or other uses, in line with the relevant submission. This is an opportunity to promote any new development sites, or continue to promote an existing allocation or identification, for inclusion in the future North Tyneside Local Plan.
By submitting your site for assessment, North Tyneside Council can understand their land availability across the Borough. The availability, suitability and deliverability of your site would be assessed by the Council to understand if it could help meet the future development needs of the Borough, and confirm it is likely to be a favourable development site in the future Local Plan.
The Council are currently welcoming all submissions through their consultation portal. The consultation is open and runs until Thursday 17th April 2025.
