The majority of the site is occupied by a vacant building, previously the Newburn Hotel, which was constructed in 1895 by F.M. Laing. The area of ground to the west of the main building (previously the stables and garden area) is currently vacant. The site has open views over the River Tyne to the south and views up Station Road to the north. The existing building is constructed in an attractive red facing brick.
